Mustang was founded on November 22, 1901. This beautiful city is a fast and dynamic growing suburban city in Canadian County, Oklahoma, United States and is also a part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area. It is 15 miles southwest of downtown Oklahoma City and is located in the southeast portion of Canadian County. In the year 2013, the total population of Mustang is at 17,395
In the beginning, Mustang’s main economy was agriculture. Mustang was called “A Garden of Eden” and “Down in Egypt” and is one of the most prosperous regions in Oklahoma. They cultivate wheat, corns, oats, sweet potatoes, watermelons and cantaloupes. Then on 1920’s peach and other fruit garden became the primary crops.
Baseball was the first established sport in Mustang and now, Mustang, Oklahoma is the home base of the Canadian Valley Rangerettes Mounted Drill Team. The Rangerettes are the three time USEDC National Open Drill Champions. The team captured the sport's highest prize, The SportsQuest Cup, in 2008, 2009 and 2011. The team also won the Kessler prize in 2012.
Schools were established here in July 1902 and Mustang takes pride for having first class schools and from having students who are exceptionally good both in academic and sports. Sought after public schools includes, Mustang Centennial Elementary, Mustang Creek Elementary, Mustang Elementary, Lakehoma Elementary, Mustang Trails Elementary, Mustang Valley Elementary, Prairie View Elementary, Mustang Education Center, Canyon Ridge Intermediate, Mustang Horizon Intermediate, Mustang Middle School, Mustang North Middle School and Mustang Highschool.
There are a lot of places to dine here at the city of Mustang. Some of the most recommended place is, Luigiano’s Italian Restaurant where you can taste excellent, fresh and homemade Italian food in large portions, perfect for big appetite. Another popular place here at Mustang to enjoy a cup of coffee is the Wild Hero Coffee Company, if you’re craving for some Mexican food, Los Vaqueros Mexican Restaurant and Texalco Mexican Restaurant are a must try.
Mustang makes sure that they provide their residents and visitors with great recreational facilities where everyone can enjoy like the Wild Horse Park Sport Center and the Town Center Community Center. They also have top notch libraries.
The city also celebrates different festivals and the largest is the annual Western Days event. They start it off with some Blue Grass Music and a cook-off on Friday night. There are carnivals for the kids, Mustang Round-Up Club Open Rodeo, Kiwanis Pancake breakfast, then 5K and Fun Run at the high school and then the most awaited grand Parade. They also have Mustang car show, food & arts and crafts vendors, entertainment, the Pet Show/Contest and street dance.
